5 AEW Wrestling Attires We Would Never Want To Wear (& The 5 Best)

Oct 04, 2023

AEW wrestlers have sported gear that we would never want to wear, but some of them have had some pretty cool attires as well.

They say that clothes make the person, and in wrestling companies, one's in-ring attire plays a major part in your character. From Hulk Hogan's bright yellow trunks to John Cena's "jorts", wrestling attires have been integral in establishing someone's character, whether face or heel. In AEW, this thought is no different.

Throughout the Jacksonville-based promotion's nearly four years of existence, thousands of wrestling attires have appeared, and each of them has reflected the character of their wearer. However, not every one of them is held to the same standard. Some of these have looked great on the performer, while others have made fans wish it never existed.

Sting is one of the most popular wrestlers of all time, no doubt. However, his current ring gear is one of the least flattering in AEW today.

Wrestlers fighting in T-shirts is nothing new - many do it occasionally. But for Sting, it accentuates his lack of great shape. It is as if he wants to hide his physical decline from the world, but if the Undertaker continued to go sleeveless even into his 50s, why not the Icon?

Penelope Ford was, without a doubt, at her peak in 2020. Besides maneuvering herself to an underrated title match against then-champion Hikaru Shida, she exuded a certain aura that, in an alternate timeline, might have carried her to a title reign.

As AEW's resident "Bad Girl", Ford has never been one to shy away from flaunting her looks. However, the leotards she wore at that point in her career, when combined with her leather jacket and flowing blonde hair, truly portrayed her as a star.

Kenny Omega is known for his high-intensity wrestling style. His arsenal is as diverse as they come, ranging from hard-hitting knees to crazy flips to surprisingly powerful suplexes.

That being said, the compression shirt he wore in his return to action on August 17, 2022, was very strange to see. Thankfully, he eventually ditched it once he regained his "Elite" form.

When Hangman Page was just getting his career started, he, like most wrestlers, donned the usual trunks, usually black. However, he switched to pants as his singles push escalated, and looking back, they suit him better.

The design of the pants invokes chaps, which most cowboys in the Wild West wore. And since Page is supposed to portray a cowboy-esque character, he exudes it way better than he did in his previous outfit.

A good number of wrestling fans may consider Toni Storm an ultimate package: young, good-looking, and supremely skilled. However, her recent aesthetic choices have left them wanting more lately.

It was bad enough when Storm started wearing her trademark blonde hair in twin buns, which makes her look like a naughty toddler rather than a confident woman. And then at Double or Nothing 2023, the wrestling world was treated to the strange sight of her in a gray all-covering one-piece with red accents.

Darby Allin has one of the most distinctive characters in wrestling today: a skater punk who loves to defy death whenever he fights.

His attire easily lends to the gimmick: skull paint on the left side of his face, plenty of tattoos, and a very cool-looking pair of black "pants" that are actually made up of two pieces of clothing: jeans whose legs have been completely cut off, and leggings underneath. When combined with black shoes, it really makes for an eerie yet captivating presence.

CM Punk has never had one of the most impressive physiques in professional wrestling, but what he lacked in looks he more than made up for in skill, both in the ring and on the mic.

Given that, his choice of outfit at All Out 2021 was interesting, to say the least. Punk went out in what he called "longbois" on Twitter. He did beat Darby Allin at that event, so it must have been a lucky charm, but he has worn them only rarely since, caving in to fan demand to bring back the classic Chicagoan trunks.

Like Darby Allin, AEW International Champion Orange Cassidy has a very distinctive character: a denim-wearing slacker who also happens to be good at fighting and loves his Best Friends very much.

His denim joggers have been as iconic an item in AEW history as the championship belts that have changed hands as the years passed. If he turns heel (not that it is likely), a black version may be in store for him.

It is no secret that Jade Cargill loves to don outfits inspired by comic book and video game characters. She has done She-Hulk, Storm, and her namesake from Mortal Kombat. She even did an homage to her sorority once!

But her most recent comic-inspired look is not exactly pleasing to the eyes. Inspired by the Thundercats character Cheetara, the orange leotard is eye-popping, of course, but it is the yellow leggings that make the outfit very garish.

Hikaru Shida was at the peak of her game as AEW Women's World Champion, even if the booking of her feuds was not always that. Her year-long reign is littered with classic matches that any future fan of AEW must see.

At some point in her reign, she changed her trademark outfit to more closely resemble a red version of Tifa Lockhart's from Final Fantasy VII, complete with the appropriate arm sleeves, gloves, suspenders, and half-skirt. This, combined with her trustworthy kendo stick, made her a badass among badasses.
